The studio captioned a Twitter post accompanying the trailer saying, “Will Smith is #KingRichard in the inspiring true story of the coach/mentor/father that brought us, Venus & Serena Williams. In Theaters and streaming exclusively on @hbomax November 19.”
According to the movie’s description, the film will chronicle the life of the two legendary sister athletes, from the point of view of “an undeterred father” with a “relentless drive and unapologetic vision to change the game,” who is “instrumental in raising two of the most extraordinarily gifted athletes of all time, who will end up changing the sport of tennis forever.”
The film will feature actresses Saniyya Sidney and Demi Singleton as Serena and Venus.
In the trailer, Richard says about his daughters, “I wrote a 78-page plan for their whole career before they were even born.”
Richard says to his girls, a fact that is true even to this very day. He says teary-eyed, “You’re not just going to be representing you. You’re going to be representing every little Black girl on earth.”
According to the New York Post, Venus, Serena, and their sister, Isha Price, are executive producers on the true-story film that highlights their upbringing.
From being two young girls from Compton, California, to becoming two of the greatest athletes of all time and the importance of their father’s role in the making of their success.
