Disgraced Canadian crooner Tory Lanez has confirmed that he hired Suge Knight’s lawyer, David Kenner, to take over his case involving Houston hottie rapper Megan Thee Stallion.
According to Radar Online, Lanez established Kenner’s hiring before his court appearance on Jan. 9. The famed lawyer reportedly represented several notable figures in hip-hop, including Suge Knight, legendary Cali rapper Snoop Dogg—the now-owner of Death Row Records—and ’90s rapper Tupac.
The rapper was previously represented by attorney George Mgdesyan, who was present in court when Lanez was convicted on all charges related to the alleged shooting. His forthcoming sentencing hearing is scheduled for Jan. 27, the Superior Court Of California said, as he’s currently facing a maximum sentence of 22 years and eight months in prison.
In December, Sis2Sis reported that the 30-year-old was found guilty of all charges after denying his role in the alleged 2020 shooting of Megan. Jurors in the case, consisting of seven women and five men, had a seven-hour deliberation leading them to drop the guilty verdict, and Lanez was taken into police custody.
The “Say It” rapper was charged with assault with a semi-automatic weapon, having an unregistered gun in his car and gross negligence by discharging a firearm. He additionally faces deportation back to his home country.
After the verdict, Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón applauded Megan for her “courage” in the seemingly never-ending court battle against Lanez.
“You showed incredible courage and vulnerability with your testimony despite repeated and grotesque attacks that you did not deserve,” Gascón said. “You faced unjust and despicable scrutiny that no woman should ever face, and you have been an inspiration to others across L.A. County and the nation.”
Meanwhile, Lanez has been missing in action from Instagram, as he typically gives fans updates on the case there.
