Snoop Dogg revealed that Queen Elizabeth stopped him from getting kicked out of the U.K. in 1994 amid controversy surrounding his murder trial.
In an interview with D.J. Whoo Kid, released on Feb. 24, Snoop went into detail about what happened.
“They kicked me out [of] the U.K.’ Kick this evil bastard out!'” he said, referring to a 1994 issue of British tabloid, the Daily Star.
“That s**t is documented n***a, they [had] a picture of me on the front,” Snoop recalled, as another image, captured by celebrity photographer, Tom Sheehan, appeared on the screen. The image paid homage to the iconic photo of track and field athlete Tommie C. Smith doing a Black power salute at the 1968 Olympics.
“I had a handcuff on one of my hands…one of them was on…and [the other] was off. I had my hands up like this, and they didn’t like it,” he explained as he lifted his right fist in the air.
He added that he experienced negativity in the U.K. amid his famous murder trial that lasted three years. At the time, he faced first-degree murder charges after a rival gang member, 20-year-old Phillip “Little Smooth” Woldermariam, was shot and killed in L.A.’s Woodbine Park on Aug. 25, 1993. He was acquitted of his charges on Feb. 20, 1996, marking the end of the trial.
“This is while I was fighting a murder case over there doing shows so, the perception they had was, ‘this n***a beat a murder, and he’s over here?'”
“And you’re over here turning up,” Whoo Kid interjected.
Snoop continued mimicking the British media saying, “‘With a handcuff on, with one of [his hands] up there? Get this n***a out of here!'”
Then, he hit viewers with a surprise, saying that Queen Elizabeth came to his aid amid the backlash surrounding him in her country.
“Guess who came to my defense? The Queen. The Queen said, ‘This man has done nothing in our country. He can come,'” he said.
“The Queen n***a, bow down n***a,” he reiterated. “That’s Harry and William’s grandmother, you dig? You think they weren’t there saying, ‘Grandma! Please let [Snoop Dogg] in grandma. He’s okay! We love his music,'” Snoop hilariously said, mimicking Prince Harry and Prince William’s accents. He continued with his rendition of the Queen’s voice. “You know [what] Harry, I’ll let him in for you. He’s not so bad after all, and he’s quite cute.'”
The 50-year-old musician then thanked Queen Elizabeth for her support.
“Thank you, Queen. I love you, baby.”
In a previous interview clip with Whoo Kid, Snoop was asked how he felt about his recent accomplishments, including his Super Bowl Halftime performance on Feb. 13. He responded, saying he was simply “strolling through time.”
“Whoo Kid, I’m the Black Forrest Gump,” he said. “I’m just strolling through time. When I’m done, I’ll look back at it…and see what it is. I’m just trying to keep moving like, ‘This way!'” he said, pointing forward.
Snoop recently acquired Death Row Records, which was the label that launched his legendary career. He made the thrilling announcement on Feb. 9.
