Retired F.B.I. agent Phil Carson confirmed with the New York Post that the trigger man behind the murder of Brooklyn rapper Notorious B.I.G. is Harry Billups and claims that the crime was ‘covered up’ by crooked LAPD cops.
The ex-agent told the publication that Death Row Records founder Marion “Suge” Knight paid for the hit on Biggie, which was carried out by Nation of Islam convert and hired hitman Amir Muhammad with the help of corrupt Los Angeles cops.
“All the evidence points to Amir Muhammad. He’s the one who pulled the trigger,” Carson said. “There were plenty of others who helped orchestrate it [and] allowed him to pull the trigger.”
The alleged cover-up “was the biggest miscarriage of justice in my 20-year career at the F.B.I.”
The retired federal agent continued, “I had evidence that LAPD officers were involved, and I was shut down by the LAPD and city attorneys inside Los Angeles.”
Christopher Wallace, also known as The Notorious B.I.G. or Biggie Smalls, was 24 when he was gunned down on a Los Angeles street on March 9, 1997.
Following his death, frustrated fans and the Wallace family were confused and hurt for nearly a quarter-century, with the rumors of an official and widespread cover-up.
However, Carson and film producer Don Sikorski, whose movie “City of Lies” details the murder, said the murder isn’t a mystery after all.
“All the answers are in black and white,” Sikorski said, revealing that he and “City of Lies” director Brad Furman are two of the few people who have read the sealed court files behind the murder.
Carson shared that the original target was not Biggie, but Sean “Puffy” Combs, who was in the car ahead of Biggie’s S.U.V. on the night of the murder. He said that once he shared that Knight’s hit was for Combs, the record label exec was “pretty freaked out” to learn that he was the intended target.

In a 2003 F.B.I. report obtained by the outlet, the case for prosecutors supports the claim Carson and the filmmakers make today.
The official report written by Carson stated, “Amir Muhammad, AKA Harry Billups, the godparent to LAPD Officer David Mack’s two children, has been identified by several sources as the trigger man. Mack is a registered owner of a 1995 Black SS Impala with chrome wheels, the exact description given as being driven by Wallace’s shooter.”
The civil case filed against the LAPD by the Wallace family in 2002 holds the bulk of the evidence about the murder but remains sealed under a federal judge’s order.
Although the criminal investigation into the murder still officially remains open, according to the LAPD, there’s been no activity on it for years.
Knight hasn’t responded to the accustation.
