Bride Kadeja Jackson Baker became a viral TikTok sensation after her wedding when her Miami-based makeup artist Tia Codrington posted a video exclaiming her love for her client’s natural gray hair.
The wedding is believed to have happened in June 2022, and Codrington continued releasing other videos of the bride.
“I loved my bride’s natural gray hair,” Codrington said in the video using the artificial intelligence (AI) voiceover. “She’s had it since she was 15.”
Codrington wrote in the caption, “I love the girls that stick to their roots.”
The TikTok video received over 1 million views and over 200,000 likes. Not only did Baker receive praise for her beauty in the comment section, but she also inspired other people who have had gray hair at a young age to embrace it.
“I was 15 when I started to get my grey hair,” one TikTok commenter wrote. “Hated it but love it now.”
“I’m gonna embrace my grey hair. I think it would look fire with my curls,” another one wrote.
After the video took off, Codrington interviewed with Good Morning America to discuss her intentions with the video.
“I initially didn’t have any expectations when posting the videos other than to share her beauty through my eyes, but witnessing how she embraced and embodied the beauty of her hair was something I felt compelled to share,” the makeup artist said.
She added,” It was amazing to know that she had options to change her hair color or try something different for that day, but chose to be herself and wear her natural hair color.”
Baker also didn’t expect the video to gain as much popularity as it did.
“I did not expect for the responses to be as plentiful as I look at myself in the mirror every day and did not think it was that big of a deal that I was embracing my natural hair and look,” the 38-year-old said.
Codrington posted more videos giving exclusive looks into two of Baker’s looks and her husband’s reaction to his forever bride.
In the first look, Baker’s silky hair was in an elegant updo, and, in the video, she gracefully approached her husband and signaled to him that he could turn around to get a look.
In the second look, Baker lets her hair down, flaunting a wavy hairstyle at the wedding reception.
Baker said that many people questioned the authenticity of her hair color and affirmed that it was her natural hair color.
As a message to those who have yet to embrace a unique part of themselves, she claimed, “Being the best version of yourself is the best thing you can off to the world.”
