VIDEO: Denzel Washington ‘Stands By’ His Fellow Boys & Girls Club Members During Sing-A-Long

Denzel Washington joined in a sing-along at the Boy & Girls club conference.

The Boys & Girls Club of America hosted its national conference earlier this month in Chicago.

Washington, who has been the organization’s national spokesperson for more over 25 years, made an appearance and decided to share vocals with the kids as they sang “Stand By Me.”

The Boys & Girls Club Instagram shared the touching moment of Denzel signing alongside the kids.

The caption read, “Last week, our National Spokesperson, Denzel Washington, joined some of our incredibly talented youth singers for a powerful sing-along to “Stand by Me” as he promises to always stand by them. The talented young singer is Melviona from @bgcmidtn 💙

According to Forbes, the two-time Academy Award actor joined the Mount Vernon, New York chapter when he was five.

Washington told FOX 32, “One of the great things about growing up in the club, it was an environment that was conducive for positive feedback, and we thrived on that. We believed it. It was nourishing.”

During his speech to the attendees and employees, Washington said, “All of you have proven that you need and deserve to be at the table when the issues facing our children must be addressed. Because when essential workers needed essential services for their children, you stepped up to provide those services. Because when many of our communities witnessed and experienced civil unrest, community leaders and law enforcement relied on you, club staff, to bring understanding and civility back to their communities.

Washington joined this year’s national conference during the announcement of the Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s “2021-22 National Youth of the Year.”

This year’s awardee was 18-year-old Brianna P. Brianna, who has been involved with the organization since she was 9-years-old. She was awarded a $72,500 scholarship and a new Toyota Corolla!

Congratulations, Brianna!
