The Breakfast Club recently defended Cardi B after Drink Champs host N.O.R.E. seemingly criticized the rapper and other artists for conducting interviews with mainstream media who are not involved with the “culture.”
On Wednesday, the former rapper took to Twitter and shared his thoughts on rap artists doing interviews with talk show hosts, such as David Letterman, Oprah, Gayle King, and Ellen DeGeneres.
“I have been the best to this culture. I have always put hip hop first, and I see u guys go to Ellen and David Letterman’s and Zane lows and treat them wit more respect then the culture but u say u want black excellence,” he tweeted.

He continued, “Imma be honest even going to Oprah or gal is trash at this point !!! We control our in culture why go outside of it!!!”

While revealing that Letterman was one of his favorite talk show hosts, the Queens native questioned why artists decided to sit down with the 75-year-old and DeGeneres, who recently ended her show on Thursday after 19 seasons on NBC.

On Thursday, the syndicated morning show addressed N.O.R.E.’s comments, which fans thought were shots toward the “WAP” artist. However, Angela Yee, DJ Envy, and Charlamagne Tha God insisted that the 29-year-old still supports hip hop-related platforms that promoted her music before becoming a superstar.
“Cardi does a lot of the things that a lot of artists won’t do,” Envy explained, adding, “but I do feel that when artists blow up, they don’t go to a lot of the places that helped them get there and they start doing the crossover thing, and I think that’s wack.”
Charlamagne expanded on N.O.R.E.’s comments, agreeing that some rap artists and labels are more likely to show more respect to mainstream media.
“The publicist and label will come to Black outlets and say, ‘Don’t ask this. Don’t ask that.’ But when they sit with the white outlets, they will say, ‘we are open to discuss anything.’ So that to me is where the respect is because you giving these white outlets the soundbites that go viral and you make those persons platforms bigger,” the radio host said.
Later on, N.O.R.E. revealed that his tweets weren’t about the Bronx native, writing, “Love it wasn’t even talking or thinking bout cardi but love the article.”

Cardi is expected to appear on season four of Netflix’s My Next Guest Needs No Introduction with Letterman.
