Despite announcing her retirement from music in 2020, Teyana Taylor has made a long-lasting impression while transitioning into an entrepreneur. According to Celebrity Net Worth, the singer and businesswoman have garnered a net worth of $5 million, combing music and other business endeavors, including a partnership with renowned clothing brand PrettyLittleThing, onscreen roles, fitness, and real estate, to name a few.

The collaboration with the clothing brand, which named Taylor their newest creative director, allows her to expand its reputation.

Taylor, known to be a creative spirit, wanted to test the waters by discovering different business ventures that could display her talents. In regards to this new move, she told People, “I’m at a place where no one can put me in a box. They can’t tell me I can only do one thing. I do whatever I put my mind to and succeed at it.”

While the Harlem native has gained success in many business ventures, she also has a combined net worth of $35 million with her husband, Iman Shumpert, through music, acting, and basketball, Afro tech reported.

Here’s a look at Taylor’s music and business ventures that turned her into a rising superstar.

Taylor’s music career launched when she was 16-years-old. At the time, she secured a gig as one of the choreographers for Beyonce’s “Ring The Alarm” video. After slowly making a name for herself, she signed to Pharrell Williams’ Star Trak Entertainment (Interscope Records).

Her mixtape “From a Planet Called Harlem” was released on Aug. 16, 2009. She eventually signed to GOOD Music and penned songs for Usher, Chris Brown, and Omarion.

On Dec. 4, 2020, Taylor announced her retirement from music via her Instagram page. The decision was due to having felt “underappreciated” and “overlooked” in the industry. She wrote, “I’m retiring this chapter of my story with the comfort that I can depart with peace of mind seeing that all the hard work & passion put in was indeed loved & supported somewhere in the world!”

She explained why she decided to retire on Sip N Smoke, with Cam Newton in greater detail.

“For my mental health, my mental well-being, for my kids, let me just put this on ice for a little [bit]. It’s not that I retired permanently. It’s more like I just don’t feel like I want to move another inch for a company,” she said.

Taylor has had a notable film and television career. Currently, she can be seen on her reality show, “We Got Love: Teyana & Iman.” But before that, she starred in such TV shows as “Star,” “The Breaks,” and “Hit The Floor.”

As far as films, she recently starred in “Coming to 2 America,” the sequel to the Eddie Murphy classic. In addition to the film, she starred in “Madea’s Big Happy Family,” where she starred opposite Bow Wow and Lauren London and immortalized “BYROOOOOOOON!” into the pop culture lexicon.

In 2018, Harlem World Magazine reported that Taylor had opened Junie Bee’s Nail Salon. Sadly, the pandemic forced Taylor to close the salon in 2020. However, Taylor said the business itself would continue in a different location in a building she hopes to own.

“Junie Bees strives to excel as a Black-owned business, and now its time to OWN A BLOCK!” she said. “We will be providing a BIGGER and better atmosphere that will support all of your needs!! During this time, we’re embracing the movement as BLACK LIVES MATTER & BLACK BUSINESSES!! We will no longer be renting.”

Taylor also owns a fitness app & program called Fade2Fit. For $19.99 a month, the app offers personalized workouts, a custom meal plan made for your lifestyle, plus unlimited streaming options. Fade2Fit also has a clothing line.

In January 2021, REVOLT TV revealed that Taylor acquired five acres of property for Aunties 360, which will provide production, dance, recording, prop studios, equipment, and 360 green screen rooms for creatives.

The production company has already produced videos for singers Queen Naija and Taylor herself.

“The Aunties is more than just a sisterhood, but we nurture artists like ourselves, artists that visualize the unseen, touch the untouchable and try what most would consider unthinkable. We represent opportunity, for the best of the best had an opportunity to start,” Taylor said on her Instagram page about the collective.

Real Estate

Taylor and Shumpert purchased a luxurious 5,700-square-foot home under $3 million in Studio City, CA, in 2018. The couple listed the property for sale for $3.695 million within two years, per The Los Angeles Times.

In August 2021, E! News had taken a tour of the couple’s new Atlanta, GA home. The pair moved to Atlanta in November 2020, shortly after they put their Studio City home up for sale. According to the outlet, the mansion is “Pop Art-inspired,” and Taylor worked closely with the designers to bring her vision to life.
