Grammy Award-winning rapper, songwriter, and producer T-Pain said legendary ’90s rapper Tupac would’ve been lyrically “ate the f**k up” by today’s rappers if he was still alive.
T-Pain, whose real name is Faheem Rashad Najm, made the controversial statement via entertainment media personality DJ Akademiks’ recent Twitch stream on July 11. He began his sentiments by discussing how social media would’ve affected old-school rappers if it were around during their respective eras.
“If Instagram and Twitter were poppin’ like when Pac was beefing, imagine how entertaining that would’ve been,” Akademiks said.
T-Pain responded, saying Tupac would’ve gotten eaten up lyrically in the modern era of hip-hop.
“I feel like, and I’m not gon’ lie to you, this gon’ be some bullshit,” T-Pain said. “Pac would’ve got killed sooner, and he would’ve got his ass ate the f**k up lyrically.”

He continued his point, insisting that the “Dear Mama” rapper was a “crazy lyricist” during his time because no one else had the right platform to display their talent.
“Lyricism-wise, Pac would’ve got ridiculously murdered. Pac was a crazy lyricist in our time because ain’t nobody else have [a] platform. If the platforms [were] what they are now, ‘Pac would’ve got ate the f**k up. What we look at as Pac’s greatest lyrics right now is peanuts to what we hear today.”
T-Pain then said that Tupac was “one of the greatest lyricists,” but only of the late rapper’s time.
“Pac is a full fuckin’ poet. Pac was one, if not the, one of the greatest lyricists at the time. But if we would’ve had social media back then and everybody would’ve had their opinion, there would’ve been way the fuck more disrespectful n****s at the time. Niggas would’ve been dying to be more disrespectful than’ Pac.”
Tupac was tragically gunned down in Los Angeles back in 1996. His musical catalog, acting chops, rebellious persona, and striking style made him one of the most highly regarded hip-hop artists of all time.
