So You Can Think You Can Dance (SYTYCD) alum Stephen “tWitch” Boss has passed away from suicide.
TMZ reported that the 40-year-old dancing sensation was reportedly found dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound in a hotel room in Los Angeles on Tuesday. tWitch’s wife, fellow dancer Allison Holker Boss, became concerned when he left their home without his vehicle. The 34-year-old dancer and mom frantically went to the police department. A short time later, medical personnel showed up at the Los Angeles hotel after receiving a call about a medical emergency and found tWitch’s body. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Allison shared a statement with PEOPLE Magazine regarding her husband’s sudden death.
“It is with the heaviest of hearts that I have to share my husband Stephen has left us. Stephen lit up every room he stepped into. He valued family, friends and community above all else and leading with love, and light was everything to him. He was the backbone of our family, the best husband and father, and an inspiration to his fans.”
She continued, “To say he left a legacy would be an understatement, and his positive impact will continue to be felt,” she continued. “I am certain there won’t be a day that goes by that we won’t honor his memory. We ask for privacy during this difficult time for myself and especially for our three children.”
“Stephen, we love you, we miss you, and I will always save the last dance for you,” Allison concluded.

The dance icon gained fame and popularity after becoming a contestant on MTV’s The Wade Robson Project. tWitch then became an instant fan favorite on season four of So You Think You Can Dance in 2008. He was a runner-up and later returned as one of the show’s all-star dancers. The uber-talented dancer became a judge on SYTYCD in 2022.
The 40-year-old entertainer was a staple on The Ellen DeGeneres Show in 2014 as a guest DJ. In 2020, the guest position became permanent, and he was also a co-producer on the show. He and Allison co-hosted Disney’s Fairy Tale Weddings. tWitch also had a list of high-profile films like Magic Mike XXL and the Step Up movie series.
He celebrated his 40th birthday on September 29.

On December 11, Allison and he posted an adorable dance video to Alicia Key’s “December Back 2 June.”
