R&B singer Lyfe Jennings thought it’d be cool to tell his tale about how mass murderer Jeffrey Dahmer allegedly asked him to sing for him while they were locked up in the same prison.
Dahmer has become a trending topic on social media after Netflix released Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story series on Sept. 21. The R&B singer decided to tag along on the Dahmer trend train and told the public about his encounter with Dahmer in prison. The 44-year-old singer has been out of prison for over ten years and thought this was the perfect time to share the tall tale. In an Instagram video, the “Never Never Land” singer claimed Dahmer requested him to sing while he cleaned the prison floors.

“So, like I said, I was a porter,” Jennings clarified in the video. “In case y’all don’t know, a porter is a cat who cleans the railing, the floor, mop and sweep. I was real young then, so, you know, they let me out to do my thing.”
He continued, “And, of course, while I be sweeping up, I be singing. A lot of the time, Cats used to have requests,” he said about his 10-year imprisonment. “One particular day I walked past… and Jeffrey said ‘Hey, hey, hey, is that you down there singing?”
Dahmer allegedly told Jennings he enjoyed R&B music and asked him to sing Mint Conditions’ “Breakin’ My Heart (Pretty Brown Eyes).” Jennings claimed he sang it for him while Dahmer made the beat on the cell door.
“I ain’t say it like the homie is a celebrity or nothing. I’m just telling you my experience,” he stated.
Many Instagram users found Jennings’ story disturbing because he seemed to brag about being locked up with a serial killer and singing to him.
Dahmer was given 15 consecutive life sentences after murdering 17 young men and boys. In 1992, Dhamer was sent to the Columbia Correctional Institution in Wisconsin to serve his time. Jennings and his male friend group thought a house belonged to a drug dealer who allegedly duped them, and they set fire to it. The then 14-year-old was sentenced to 10 years in 1992 but in Ohio.
So, how did Jennings and Dahmer serve time in the same facility?
According to a 1992 AP News report, Dahmer was processed into Ohio’s prison system, the Lorain Correctional Institution in Grafton, the same day he was given a sixteenth life sentence for murdering his first victim, Steven M. Hicks in 1978 in Ohio. After managing to escape police attention, he left the state.
Dahmer was only held in the facility for a few hours before returning to Wisconsin. In those few hours, Jennings got to sing to a serial killer. A story he’s proud to tell the world.
