Issa Rae’s newest series, Rap Sh!t, is coming to HBO Max this summer. Rae serves as the executive producer along with Insecure‘s Syreeta Singleton as the showrunner and executive producer, City Girls’ Yung Miami and JT as co-producers, according to ET.
“Wrote a new show for @HBOMax! One of my favorite writers, the hilarious @reetafajita is showrunning and my favorite group, CITY GIRLS are co-EP’s! Miami here we come,” Rae shared on Twitter.
Rap Sh!t is a half-hour series that follows the lives of two high school friends, Shawna and Mia from Miami, who become a rap group and tries to break into the male-dominated hip-hop industry. The two high schoolers are played by Keep It podcast host Aida Osman (Shawna) and Miami artist KaMillion.
This is Rae’s and Singleton’s most recent project, which comes after her breakout series Insecure came to an end last year.
“The End, okay?! Produced by the incredible @msdeniese & directed by the phenomenal @jrbland — the documentary special Insecure: The End, streams Sunday, December 26th on @HBOMax,” Rae shared on Instagram last year.
The teaser for the HBO Original series came out this week. Viewers can catch a glimpse into the lives of the two girls, trying to make it big in the industry through social media and social networking while enjoying the advantages of fame through partying at clubs enjoying lavish hotels.
The series will premier on July 21.
