Kim Porter’s legacy is being kept alive by her oldest son.
Though it’s now known that Kim Porter passed away in November 2018 from lobar pneumonia, a severe infection of the lung(s), many still can’t wrap their heads around how the 47-year-old mother of four died so young and unexpectedly.
Her death has no doubt been difficult for anyone who was close to the former model and actress. And it’s likely the hardest for her four kids, who’ve now had to live two years without their mother. Porter raised three children with her music mogul ex Sean “Diddy” Combs, including their twins, Jessie James and D’lila Star Combs, 14, as well as their son King Combs, 22.

Porter’s first child, musician Quincy Brown, in particular, has been keeping his mother’s legacy alive by remembering her through old photos, artwork and family tributes on his social media. Quincy, 29, is also the son of 90s R&B singer Al B. Sure!

Quincy recently partnered with Google Pixel for International Women’s Month and used the opportunity to honor his late mother in an Instagram video, as well as show how multidimensional she was as a career woman and an involved mom.
In the video, Porter’s son called her the “First Lady of Hip-Hop,” and went on to describe her as a trailblazer and trendsetter for black girls.

“But for me, she simply was my mommy,” Quincy recalled. “…I was a rebel growing up. My thoughts were different, ideas were different. But she was the first to let me know that what separates me is what makes me that much more unique.”
Quincy also spoke to PEOPLE exclusively about his partnership with Google and the impact his mother had on his life. No stranger to the tech world, Quincy was excited to work with Google, as he has a history in app and technology development. He even launched Qase, a product that allows you to track your AirPods, which many users find hard to keep track of.

“I was initially interested in partnering with Google because I’ve been a fan of tech for the longest time and I think they’re one of the leaders in technology,” Quincy said.
“I chose to highlight my mom because she definitely was and still is the most important woman in my life…She’s had that much of an impact on me to where I can talk about her every day for the rest of my life.”
