Legendary actress Sheryl Lee Ralph’s reaction to her first Emmy Award nomination was a mix of shock and sheer excitement, as seen in a recent Twitter video.
Ralph’s son, Etienne Maurice, uploaded the video to his Twitter page with a sweet message attached. In it, she was fanning herself and getting emotional while receiving the great news via phone.
“With over 50 years of being in this thing we call showbusiness, today my mother became an Emmy nominated actress,” Maurice tweeted. “I’m so proud of @thesherylralph. I’m so glad I could be here in Jamaica with you for this moment. (excuse the mess in the video, we’re remodeling our bathroom, lol).”

While super excited about her nomination, his mother seemed to keep her composure very well.
“Oh my God!” she exclaimed.
“You nominated?!” Maurice was heard asking in the background of the clip.
“Yes!” Ralph replied. “Oh my God, I don’t know what to say!”
The Jamaican-American actress was nominated for an Emmy, along with her co-stars Quinta Brunson, Tyler James Williams and Janelle James, for their roles in the hit ABC show Abbott Elementary. She currently plays the role of a fictional teacher named Barbara Howard on the show.
Abbott Elementary was also nominated for outstanding comedy series at the upcoming Emmy Awards ceremony, which is scheduled to air on September 12.
Ralph took to Instagram to show her gratitude for her supporters, fellow cast members, and Brunson, who created and wrote “Abbott Elementary.”
“Sweet baby Jesus, and the grown one too! Nothing before God’s time. (Brunson) you made this happen, and I love you!!!” the 65-year-old wrote on IG. “I have the most amazing cast and crew a Diva could ever ask for, and I love each and every one of you!!! To all my supporters throughout my career, thank you, thank you, thank you. We are going to the Emmy’s baby!!!!!”

Ralph has been in showbiz for over 50 years, appearing in a multitude of films, television series, and Broadway plays, including Dreamgirls (1981), Sister Act 2: Back In The Habit (1993), Moesha (1996-2001), Instant Mom (2013-2015) and Wicked (2016). She released her first book, titled “Redefining Diva: Life Lessons from the Original Dreamgirl” in 2012.
