“I am heartbroken about the loss of the incredible @sonyaeddy,” the post read. “I truly loved her, not only as an actress, but as a friend. The lights in the hub of the nurse’s station will now be a little dimmer, but her spirit and light will live on in both the show and our set. Eddy, a California native, has been acting for over 25 years in films like Matchstick Men, Barbershop, Daddy Daycare, Seven Pounds, Bad News Bears, and The Perfect Game.

She played Epiphany Johnson on General Hospital, the head nurse who showcased her beautiful vocal talents during the show’s annual “Nurse’s Ball” events. Johnson was a no-nonsense nurse who spoke her mind, like during the episode where she told doctors to stop putting most of their workload on nurses, prompting Dr. Lisa Niles to gift her two VIP tickets to Beyoncé.

Eddy had guest appearances on shows like Reba, Malcolm in the Middle, Everybody Hates Chris, In Case of Emergency, Daybreak, Strong Medicine and CSI.
