Former Migos Member Offset Isn’t Reportedly Blood-Related To Quavo And Takeoff

Rapper Offset (né Kiari Kendrell Cephus) uncovered that he wasn’t related to Quavo and Takeoff by blood.

In an exclusive interview with Variety, Offset uttered

that he met former Migos members Quavo and Takeoff in the sixth grade. While Quavo was Takeoff’s uncle, with a three-year age gap, they adopted Offset into their family, referring to him as their cousin.

The three formed a rap group in Quavo’s mom’s basement, testing out different flow styles and settling on the “triplet flow” rap style they’re known for. In 2012, they started creating mixtapes, ultimately landing a record deal with the family-like label, Quality Control, founded by Kevin “Coach K” Lee and Pierre “P” Thomas.

The group reached major success when they produced “Bad and Boujee” for Donald Glover’s FX series,

Atlanta, which topped the Billboard Hot 100.

After their “Culture” and “Culture II” albums succeeded, the group began to separate and take on solo projects. Quavo and Takeoff formed the duo Unc & Phew.

Eventually, Offset started his solo career and is currently working on an album with features from Latto, wifey Cardi B, Chloe Bailey, Travis Scott and Future.

Prior to his death, Takeoff did a song with Offset.

Takeoff died on Nov. 1, 2022, after being fatally shot outside a bowling alley in downtown Houston. Sis2Sis reported an argument ensued during a dice game, which Quavo played while Takeoff quietly watched. Shots rang out, and Takeoff fell to the ground while Quavo yelled for the police.

When asked about his feeling following Takeoff’s death, Variety reported that the “Clout” rapper “shut down.”

“It’s hard for me to talk about shit right now,” he said. “I’ve never talked about this stuff. Seriously. Talking about Take is hard, man. Talking about all this shit is hard. That’s why I don’t, to be honest. That s**t hurts.”

Offset continued, “Like, it’s gonna put me in a mood, and I don’t want to get in that mood. Some things I don’t never tell nobody. He’s not here. That s**t feels fake, bro. I get through my day thinking it’s fake. And I don’t say nothing to nobody about it.”

Since Takeoff’s death, there has been much tension between Offset and Quavo. Sis2Sis reported that the two allegedly fought backstage at the Grammy’s. A video captured the audio of the heated moment, where Cardi B could be heard saying, “Both of y’all is wrong!”
