Former That’s So Raven star Orlando Brown was arrested in Ohio on December 22 for a domestic violence incident.
As reported by TMZ, officers responded to a call in Lima after receiving reports of a fight in progress at a Baxter Street home. Brown was arrested and charged with a misdemeanor count of domestic violence for being involved in a domestic dispute with a family member with whom he had been staying for the past few weeks.
The 35-year-old Disney Channel actor’s brother told responding officers that he came after him with a hammer and a broken knife blade and believed it resulted from a persistent mental illness. The illness allegedly causes Orlando Brown to be out of touch with reality, and both weapons were recovered at the scene of the fight. He told authorities that his brother accused him of raping his wife.
Brown is reported to have a history of arrests related to burglary and narcotics possession, but this was his first incident while staying with the victim Matthew Sanders. He explained to TMZ that he opened his home up to him because he wanted to keep Brown out of a homeless shelter around the holidays.
Sanders told the outlet that he was planning an upcoming movie and that he was planning on giving Orlando Brown a secondary role in it because of his experience and talent. Still, after this fight, he’s both removed from the film and no longer allowed to stay in his home. Sanders did say that he would consider still incorporating him on the project if he got mental help before the start of filming in January.
Brown is currently being held at the Allen County Sheriff’s Office in Ohio without bond, and no updates have been given on further appearance dates.
