DMX’s funeral was a serious affair until Faith Evans came through and served drunken auntie realness during her “turn her mic off” rendition of The Clark Sisters’ gospel classic, “You Brought The Sunshine.”

Evans has given us bops but something went horribly wrong during DMX’s funeral on Sunday because Sis was not at her best during her performance. She gave drunk auntie at the karaoke bar energy throughout her rendition of the gospel jam. And although seeing a grown woman in pigtails is always, that was the least of our worries during her set.
The “I’ll Be Missing You” singer was sitting on a stool, but the way she rocked side to side as she sang gave many folks on social media pause. The talented singer’s vocals were also concerning because not only could she not find the key if Black Jesus put it in her hand– the song choice was inappropriate. In this instance, Jesus was not the answer.
To make matters worse, her band didn’t have it together either. It seemed like each instrumentalist was playing a different song and the piano player was entirely too confident with strumming our pain with his fingers.
It’s important to note that the band members also served as background singers even though the acoustics gave soundcheck, not celebrity funeral realness. Towards the end of the set, a random woman showed up on stage, and Evans handed her the mic. The girl was just…aight. You know someone who can’t necessarily sing but she can carry a tune? Very much that.
One of the guitar players sang for a bit, and he was nice and all but we came for Auntie Faith.
Evans started her set with a speech and it was just as alarming as the musical selection. Her speech was slurred and her eyes would dart back and forth as she spoke. It was a lot.
Her behavior sparked some chatter.

During her speech, Evans told the story of how she collaborated with DMX to make “I Miss You,” a song from his 2001 album The Great Depression.
“I remember the first time I met Earl, he came to my hotel room at 3 am,” she recalled. “The front desk called me, and he took the phone from them like, ‘Just tell her it’s DMX!’ And how could I say no to him coming upstairs? It’s DMX wanting to talk to me, so it had to be important. And he came upstairs and told me that he wanted to do this song with me dedicated to his grandmother.”
She also spoke of the spiritual aspects of their friendship.
“After he told me, we prayed together, when I went to the studio to record, we prayed together, at the video shoot, we prayed together, and every time I saw him thereafter, we prayed together,” Evans said.
Well, we pray Sister Evans gets it together for the next time. Amen
