Gospel artist Donnie McClurkin went from singing to playing the violin. On an upcoming episode of TV One’s Uncensored, the singer shared that he isn’t sure he has what it takes to be the husband of one wife…or any wife, for that matter, MadameNoire reported.
McClurkin is no stranger to being open. Gospel fans know him for his holy hits. The rest of the world knows him for being a former homosexual.
Years ago, McClurkin revealed that he was molested as a child and attributed his orientation to those experiences. However, he claimed God delivered him. “I’ve been through this and have experienced God’s power to change my lifestyle,” he wrote. His desire to share his transformation caused him to be unceremoniously uninvited to the 2013 MLK memorial concert.
By 2016, McClurkin was in a relationship with divorced Contemporary Christian singer Nicole C. Mullen.
However, in 2017, McClurkin explained not having a wife was the “void” in his life. He said if he “followed the principles of the Kingdom, I would be fulfilled at 57 with no void,” reported Christian Today. At the time, he said he wanted to get married but was too afraid. “I don’t want anything to fail. I hate failed relationships,” he continued.
In a 92-second YouTube clip of the upcoming episode, McClurkin spoke candidly yet confidently. “I’ll probably be alone for the rest of my life as far as a mate is concerned,” he said. “But joy is a constant type of assurance that everything’s going to be okay,” he added.
Nonetheless, the 61-year-old enjoyed a long and successful career. He also has two children, a biological son, and an adopted daughter.
In a month that was sullied by Christian husbands who behaved badly, we are grateful for Donnie’s honesty.
