Musician Kanye West now has his own day! The city of Atlanta officially declared July 22 as “Kanye West Day” to honor the Atlanta-born rapper, Hot New Hip Hip reported.
The Amazing singer also received an award in honor of his late mother, Dr. Donda West, from the president of Morris Brown College, Dr. Kevin E. James.
West was an educator at the HBCU for 20 years and was also the Chair of the English Department. Dr. West passed away in 2007, and her son accepted the Meritorious Service award from the college on her behalf.
Ye was in Atlanta for his listening event at Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium. The event was for his highly-anticipated upcoming album Donda, named after his mom. The album is expected to drop August 6.

The award ceremony for the 22 time Grammy-winner’s mother, Donda, and his plaque for “Kanye West Day” were presented to Ye backstage after the listening party.
Kim Kardashian, the rapper’s soon-to-be-ex-wife, was in attendance for the listening party with the former couple’s four children, North, Chicago, Psalm and Saint. They family was also backstage for the award ceremony.
One surprise for listeners was a track featuring Jay Z. The two had a falling out after Jay Z missed the rapper’s wedding to Kardashian, but appear to have mended the relationship.
West gave away 5,000 tickets to the event to the faculty members and students from several HBCUs including Clark Atlanta, Morehouse College, Morris Brown College, Spelman, and the Interdenominational Theological Center.
