Lately, Mo’Nique has been in the news for the wrong reasons. Respectability politics and her audacity lend themselves to the notion that she is the United States Administrator for Black Women’s appearance. Recently, on a hike, the self-imposed auntie approached a stranger who happened to be wearing a bonnet.
Ace Showbiz reported that someone on Twitter received a text message that said Mo’Nique was hiking at Stone Mountain in Georgia and was seen talking to a woman wearing a bonnet.

Of course, this situation has everyone’s attention because Mo’Nique has been on a campaign to get Black women to show “pride” in themselves in public by not wearing bonnets outside their homes.
Back in May, the apparent image auntie posted an Instagram video in which she said, “If I see you in the streets, in the airport, in the Walmart and you got a bonnet on, and you got slippers on and you looking like what the f**k, auntie gon’ tap you and say ‘hey baby girl, show what you’re worth.’ ”
In a video, Mo’Nique can be seen having a little fun with the unidentified woman, and everyone is smiling.
Though nobody knows what the comedienne said to the hiker, if her previous statements had any veracity, it was likely something that was none of her business.
Mo’Nique has a propensity for cloaking her misplaced audacity in “Hey my sweet babies….” right before delivering a nice-nasty message of “concern.” The problem is that when she refused to shave her legs and implied she was comfortable with the prospect of her husband cheating on her, she wanted the rest of us to mind our business.
In fact, she said she would give a woman a “love tap” in her video if she saw them in a bonnet. She was wearing a sports bra, leggings, and sweating. In her motivational mountain climbing video, she had a huge crotch sweat stain.
To many people, those things could indicate that Mo’Nique lacks the same pride she insists Black women need to display by removing their bonnet before going out in public.
We cannot imagine a situation in which it would be okay for anyone to have the audacity to approach a stranger about what they are wearing any time, any place, especially not while hiking.
Let’s hope Mo’Nique and her “taps” don’t get her tapped.
