The legendary rapper and producer celebrated his 46th birthday in true Kanye fashion, leaving jaws dropping and tongues wagging. This time, he took his celebration to the next level by participating in the Japanese practice of Nyotaimori, also known as eating sushi off the body of a naked woman. Now, that’s one way to make a statement!
The internet went wild when videos from Kanye’s Los Angeles birthday bash started making the rounds. One viral clip showed his adorable daughter, North, filming her dad as he passionately rapped “Off the Grid” like he was shooting a music video. But that wasn’t the only eye-catching moment of the night.

Enter the Nyotaimori scene. In the video clips, a woman can be seen lying on a table, motionless and dressed in nothing but a pair of high heels. Her body is adorned with carefully placed pieces of sushi, tempting the guests to indulge in a unique dining experience. The room was dimly lit with flickering candles, setting the perfect ambiance, and Kanye’s track “Come to Life” played softly in the background.

Originating in 17th-century Japan, this practice involves placing sushi on sanitized leaves on the model’s body to avoid any direct contact with the skin. The model is expected to remain silent until all the food is removed from their body. While some see this as demoralizing and sexist, others argue that when executed properly, it can be an artistic and beautiful experience. Who are we to judge?
Of course, social media had a lot to say about Kanye’s unconventional celebration. Critics called out the rapper for his supposedly misogynistic choice, stating that treating a woman like a plate was just plain wrong.

Others are questioning his parenting as North, his soon-to-be 10-year-old daughter was in attendance.

But some defenders pointed out that this practice is not uncommon.
That’s called “nyotaimori”, or body sushi. It’s not cheap by any stretch, obviously, and it’s often done more for the ambiance than for actual consumption.
