People on TikTok are reacting to a Black high school student’s online purchase of a dress for her upcoming prom, and some are stunned that the dress looks nothing like it was advertised.

The student, Nyla, took to her TikTok to unveil her prom dress with the caption “no words.” It is a dead giveaway that she is disappointed in the dress.

The TikTok did not explain where she bought the dress, how much was it, and what is the name of it.

The dress, advertised as a glittering golden gown modeled by a white woman with an hourglass figure, was actually a dark canary, slightly shimmering garment.

The color of the dress shown in the online advertisement may appear different in person due to variations in lighting and monitor settings. In addition, the fabric used in the dress may not feel the same as described in the advertisement, which may affect the overall look and feel of the dress.

It also did not help that Nyla’s figure – her belly weight carried in the middle of an overall slender figure – resembles a rectangle, sometimes called a banana figure, as opposed to the pear and apple shapes.

Some users debated whether or not the dress was meant for her, subtly pointing out that she could not compare herself to the model, but others chimed in that the dress was radically different than promised, and the difference in shape and fitness wouldn’t convince otherwise.

Another factor as to why the dress looks different is the quality and craftsmanship involved. Lower quality dresses may not look or feel as advertised due to issues such as poor stitching, cheap materials, or inaccurate measurements.

It is also worth noting that the banana, or rectangle shape, is the most common female body type, representing about 46 percent of women, according to Fit Desk Jockey.

In the end, Nyla either returned the dress or disregarded it because she posted another dress unveiling that was subjectively better fitted and custom designed for her.

Judging by the date of the latest prom post, on April 17, Nyla’s prom came and went.
