Al Roker celebrated some exciting news during the March 15 airing of The TODAY Show. Roker opened up about his excitement about becoming a grandfather later this year after his oldest daughter Courtney Roker Laga revealed that she was pregnant with her first child with her husband, Wesley Laga.
Although Roker talked about the exciting news on TODAY air recently, he admitted that he knew he would be a grandfather even before it was made public. “I’ve known for a while,” he said, “They just decided to go ahead (in announcing it). Wes’s goofy brother accidentally dropped it in a text. Thanks, Cory!”
He clarified that the baby was due in July of this year, but his wife still couldn’t believe the news, “Deborah is still not quite sure about the grandma thing, but we’re very excited. It still hasn’t quite sunken in.” Despite all the uncertainty surrounding the news, Roker confidently said that he knew what he wanted the future baby to call him.
“I think, in honor of my dad, I’m going to try to go for Pop-Pop.”

In the same episode, Roker shared a toast with his TODAY co-hosts Craig Melvin, Sheinelle Jones, and Dylan Dreyer, and they even shared a few inspired gifts to the soon-to-be grandfather. He continued to share what kind of grandpa he wants to be come July. Roker said, “It depends on what you consider the best grandfather. For this grandchild, I’m going to be the best grandpa ever because I’m going to do whatever I can to spoil this kid.”

According to TODAY News, Courtney told the outlet that her pregnancy was going well and that the baby was healthy. She said, “We are extremely excited to welcome a new member into our family and start this next chapter in our lives. We feel truly blessed and excited for our little miracle.”
