Robin Roberts, the long-time anchor of Good Morning America, has announced her plans to marry her partner of nearly 18 years, Amber Laign.
In an interview on the ABC morning show with Gabby Bernstein, the GMA co-anchor said, “I’m hesitating because I haven’t said it out loud yet.”
“I’m saying yes to marriage,” she added. “We’re getting married this year. It’s something we have talked about, but we had put it off. She became ill, and it is saying yes to that and that next chapter.”
Roberts, 62, shared the moment on Instagram with the caption, “Saying YES to marriage in 2023 ? Always a joy to chat with @gabbybernstein…she joined us LIVE with a manifestation challenge to realize your dreams in the new year. #marriage #manifestation #loveislove”

Laign, 48, was diagnosed with breast cancer in late 2021. Roberts also fought breast cancer in 2007 and was later diagnosed with a rare blood disorder in 2012 that required a bone marrow transplant.
In a video Roberts shared on Twitter last year, she wrote, “She and I have been together almost 17 years and have helped each other through our challenges like my journey with cancer. It’s my turn now to be there for her as she was with me.” She also said she would be leaving GMA from time to time to care for her “sweet Amber.”

The news of their upcoming marriage has been met with widespread support and congratulations. Many fans and colleagues have taken to social media to express their happiness for the couple.

While same-sex marriage has been legal in the United States since 2015, Roberts and Laign have chosen to wait until now to tie the knot. It is not clear at this time where or when the wedding will take place.
