Legendary broadcaster Al Roker was recently rushed back to the hospital just 24 hours after being discharged, as he initially suffered complications from blood clots.
According to CNN, Roker was rushed back to Manhattan hospital via ambulance on November 25, the day after Thanksgiving. He was readmitted after initially fighting complications from blood clots there.
The beloved weatherman was reportedly whisked away as his wife, Deborah Roberts, tried to break into their malfunctioned Tesla to grab her belongings and follow him. Witnesses said the ABC News journalist attempted to smash into a reinforced glass window on the car’s front side with a neighbor’s assistance.
“[Roker’s] wife, Deborah, was understandably very upset. She had left her phone and other possessions inside their Tesla, which had malfunctioned and wouldn’t unlock, so she was trying to smash in a window,” a witness told Page Six.
Due to battling health issues, Roker missed the 2022 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade for the first time in 27 years. Thankfully, his condition has improved since being under hospital care.
“Al was taken from his home in a stretcher back to the hospital on Friday, the day after Thanksgiving. His condition was worrying, but once back in the hospital, he improved,” the same witness shared. “Deborah then went to the hospital by taxi with her daughter, where Al has since been surrounded by his family.”
On November 18, the 68-year-old revealed that he was first admitted to the hospital after a blood clot in his leg caused lung clots.
“Last week I was admitted to the hospital with a blood clot in my leg which sent some clots into my lungs,” Roker wrote in an Instagram post days before being discharged.
In 2020, he announced, via Today, that he had been diagnosed with prostate cancer during a yearly physical. He soon underwent surgery to remove his prostate, as the cancer was caught in its early stages.
On December 1, Roker’s colleague, Hoda Kotb, shared that he’s been in very good care following his most recent health scare.
“He’s resting, and his doctors are keeping a close eye on him. Al and his family want everybody to know how grateful they are for all the love, the support and the well wishes,” she said.
