Promo videos announcing Dave Chappelle being this weekend’s Saturday Night Live (SNL) host popped up, showing the latest controversial comedian promising to deliver the blackest episode ever.
The first promo video is titled “Dave Chappelle Shares His Thanksgiving Plans” and included various takes with Chappelle, SNL cast member Ego Nwodim, actor and rapper Mos Def and the show’s performer Black Star.
In the first clip, Nwodim asked Chappelle if he had any big Thanksgiving plans.
“No, not really,” he responded. “I’m just going to be on the farm with the wife and kids and not watch football. You know, have a little pie. That kind of stuff.”
The next clip is Chappelle holding a cigarette while announcing he was hosting SNL with musical guest star Black Star. He then jokingly promised that the episode would be “so Black,” BET would air it, causing his castmates to break character and laugh.
“Just kidding, it’s gonna be right here on NBC,” he added.
The last clip took a jab at the comedian hosting despite not being painted in the best light the past couple of years due to the pile of controversies he has been in. One incident was the demonstrations that erupted outside Netflix’s headquarters due to the comedian’s transphobic remarks on his Netflix stand-up comedy special The Closer.
After announcing he was the host and Black Star was performing, Nwodim asked if the show would be live and Chappelle confirmed.
“With you? In this new cycle?”
This episode would be Chappelle’s third time hosting the show. He hosted in 2016 when former President Donald Trump won the presidential election, and he hosted when Trump lost, and President Joe Biden won.
In response to his return, many people had mixed feelings about SNL hiring him again.
Dave Chappelle is transphobic but it’s not surprising that SNL will turn a blind eye to that.
