Legendary Grammy Award-winning rapper Lil Kim recently confirmed that a biopic about her life and career is underway.
Kim, whose full name is Kimberly Denise Jones, revealed the exciting news to The New York Post at late iconic rapper Biggie Smalls’ 50th birthday celebration on May 20.
When the Post reporter asked Jones if fans could expect a movie detailing her humble beginnings in Bedford Stuyvesant, Brooklyn, all the way to superstardom, she responded, “Absolutely.”
However, she didn’t reveal who she would like to portray her in the film as she wasn’t comfortable doing so yet.
“I don’t know… we’ll have to see,” the 47-year-old said in response to the reporter asking who she wanted to see in the movie’s leading role.
Jones also told the Post that her biopic would be very similar to her upcoming memoir, which was scheduled to be released later this year.
“Oh my God. Everyone’s gonna know things that they’ve never known.”
Biggie, whose real name was Christopher Wallace’s 50th birthday celebration, the 2nd Annual Biggie Dinner Gala, took place at Guastavino’s in New York City. The event, hosted by Jones and presented by Lexus and Pepsi, celebrated the slain rapper’s life and legacy. He tragically passed in 1997 after being gunned down at a stoplight in Los Angeles. His death sent a shockwave through the music industry and world, as he was widely respected and loved.
Attendees of the gala included members of Wallace’s former group Junior M.A.F.I.A., his daughter T’yanna Wallace, legendary Queens rapper Havoc of Mobb Deep, Bronx rapper Fat Joe and media personality Sway Calloway, and many more.
“I have mixed emotions,” Jones said on the mic. “For me, it just never goes away. It never gets better. I’m just always missing Biggie, who I love with all my heart. It’s also a great day. It’s a celebration of his life. I’m super proud because God did something special when he put me and Biggie together.”
Wallace has been credited for discovering her and introducing her to the world. She first appeared on Junior M.A.F.I.A’s hit song “Player’s Anthem” which was released in 1995.
Jones recently performed at the Lovers & Friends festival in Las Vegas on May 14.
