Gospel singer Kierra Sheard is catching heat for letting folks know she doesn’t allow her single friends to stay the night in the home she shares with her husband, Jordan Kelly. Sheard said she decided to follow her mother’s advice, Grammy Award-winning gospel singer Karen Clark Sheard.
Sheard shared her mother’s advice, which was to never allow another woman into your household. The talented vocalist also said her mother warned her not to let another woman get too comfortable. Sheard shared her and her mother’s philosophy with Page Six on Feb. 3.
“Absolutely. My momma has already — ‘Look…don’t have too many people around your house. Don’t get comfortable. I don’t care how good you trust or whatever it is.’ I’m very mindful and careful. I would buy a friend a hotel room before I let them stay at my house. However, I am a prayerful woman to discern the space that I am in. I’m also very cautious of what purpose am I supposed to serve in this person’s life. While I am very prayerful I’m always also asking God outside of mom to direct me. In this season, am I supposed to let them into my home?” she asked.
“Because we as believers, we believe that what we have we are supposed to share with others, but I’m not sharing my man,” she continued. “Since I’m not sharing my man, I have to be cautious with everything else that I share as far as with him being there, too. That’s a lesson that I get…And I think it’s such a thing as a balance. That also goes to why we have to have wise friends. Encourage our friends, too. You know how they say a lot of single women, they can’t give you counsel, but I was single. I was able to tell my married friends good advice. I definitely think it’s such a thing as boundaries.”
Sheard added that some people don’t understand boundaries so it’s best to set them. The singer shared the video on Instagram and added a lengthy caption providing more context to the conversation.
“Besides the whole conversation that we had prior,” she wrote. “That wasn’t considered for full context. Nowadays healthy boundaries seem like insecurity and distrust to some. However, for those who’d like the truth, here’s the full video for so many who are reaching and making juicy headlines for clout. I’m blessed to have a husband and friends who I trust. My family and friends are most welcome in my home and THEY know who they are. I will remain prayerful and strategic in everything that I do, and so should you. Be encouraged to discern well because common sense ain’t so “common” these days.”
The “Something Has To Break” artist advised women to protect their homes, husbands and children to avoid trauma and other mistakes. The gospel singer reminded folks that associates are not friends.
“So, protect your homes, husbands, children, careers and more. You’ll avoid a lot of mistakes and trauma. Since we are in a cancel culture some haven’t mastered diplomacy, it’s considered phony or fake.
