Comedian Chris Tucker revealed that he didn’t return to the Friday sequels partly because he didn’t want to promote marijuana use.

A video was posted on the Kollege Kidd Instagram account with Tucker explaining why he didn’t return for the Friday sequels.

“#ChrisTucker reveals he didn’t do another #Friday movie because he didn’t want to influence people to smoke.”

Tucker said that one of the reasons he didn’t want to return to the Friday franchise was because the movie was so successful. The comedian didn’t want everyone to start smoking marijuana because of the film.

“Back then, I gotta tell you, once of the reasons why I didn’t do the second one is because of the weed,” he said. “Because I said, ‘Man, that movie became a phenomenon. I don’t want everybody smokin’ weed.’ I never really told people this because I kinda forgot about it but it was one of the reasons why I didn’t do it. Because I said, ‘I don’t want to represent everyone smokin’ weed.’ I kinda made it more personal than a movie and that’s one of the reasons I said, ‘Nah, I don’t want to keep doing that character.'”

He added that it was probably a good decision because it motivated him to pursue other projects which helped his career. Comedian Mike Epps took over for comic relief in the Friday sequels playing Day-Day Jones.
