Actress Janet Hubert says she feels at peace after she and The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air co-star Will Smith squashed their long-time feud.
In an interview with People, Hubert said, “If there are tree roots in the drain, the water doesn’t flow,” adding that “The drain has been snaked.”
“We text each other back and forth all the time. As a matter of fact, we have a very good relationship. I meant it with all my heart when I hugged him because I saw that little boy, that little 21-year-old boy. Had we had an opportunity to talk back then, I think this would have never happened.”
She adds, “He was in a place, and I was in a place, we were both in a bad place. When you’re both in a bad place, and there’s no communication, you have to talk. So it’s been wonderful; it’s been lovely to have him back in my sphere.”

On the HBO Max special in celebration of 30 years since The Fresh Prince’s first time on-air, Hubert and Smith sat down and hashed things out after 27 since they had issues that came as a result of a hostile back-and-forth in the media following Hubert’s exit from the show in 1993.
Smith said that at the time, he felt “threatened” by Hubert as well as by the rest of the world before she left.
According to Madame Noire, Hubert said that she lost everything and that her family disowned her after Smith trashed her reputation. Gossip ran wild about her being difficult to work with onset, which deeply affected her career.
Hubert said that at these moments in her life, she is at peace.
“I don’t know if it’s a comeback,” she says. “I haven’t come from anywhere; I’ve been here. It’s just now … I always had to prove myself. I also had to walk in with a presupposition, and I don’t have to do that anymore, which is really lovely.”
