Kanye West, who now goes by Ye, accused Pulp Fiction director Quentin Tarantino of jacking his idea for the 2012 hit movie Django Unchained.
During his October 21 appearance on Piers Morgan Uncensored, Ye dropped the ditty after Morgan posed a question regarding free speech to the “Faded” rapper. He also said that he created the idea when he was trying to come up with a concept for his 2005 hit single “Gold Digger,” on which he collaborated with Jamie Foxx.
“Liberals are behaving like fascists,” the British show host said. “My question for you is– do you believe there are limits to free speech? And if there are, what are they?”
“There are no limits to free speech. It’s all context, right?”
Ye then revealed that the director and Foxx “got the idea” for Django Unchained from him.
“Tarantino can write a movie about slavery, where actually– him and Jamie,” he said, interrupting himself. “They got the idea from me. Because the idea for Django, I pitched to Jamie Foxx and Quentin Tarantino as the video for ‘Gold Digger.’ And then Tarantino turned it into a film.”
Ye continued, “But in that film, he creates a context where Leonardo DiCaprio is allowed to use the word n*gger multiple times– within that context. So Hollywood’s job is to frame things.”
Although Ye’s claim sounds wild, producer Mike Dean reportedly swooped in to corroborate the story.
Our Generation Music’s Instagram page posted Ye’s accusation, and Dean pulled up in the comment section.
“#KanyeWest claims Django Unchained was his idea he pitched to #JamieFoxx & #QuentinTarantino as the music video for ‘Gold Digger,’” the site posted.
Dean responded, “BASICALLY YES. I WAS THERE THAT DAY.”
Django Unchained’s premise, according to IMDB, was “with the help of a German bounty hunter, a freed slave sets out to rescue his wife from a brutal plantation owner in Mississippi.”
The movie starred Foxx, Samuel L. Jackson, Keri Washington, Leonardo DiCaprio and Christoph Waltz.
Tarantino and Foxx have not responded to the claim.
