Whoopi Goldberg Checks Sunny Hostin For Body-Shaming Singers

Sunny dug her own grave.

On the December 8 episode of The View, actress and host Whoopi Goldberg checked co-host Sunny Hostin for body-shaming singers.

The show hosts discussed comedian and singer Rebel Wilson’s recent struggle to lose weight as producers have discouraged her, saying that she’d lose roles.

Hostin said that in regards to comedians like Wilson, weight shouldn’t matter, as, in her opinion, it doesn’t correlate with talent.

“Your mojo shouldn’t come in your pant size,” Sara Haines said to which Hostin agreed.

However, when it comes to singers, Hostin had a differing opinion and said, “I do think, sometimes, when there’s a singer that loses weight, sometimes they lose their voice.”

“That is not true,” Whoopi Goldberg said.

“I don’t know,” Hostin cut in. “Adele hasn’t, but sometimes it happens.”

“That’s not true,” Goldberg said repeatedly.

“Sometimes, there are other factors,” Goldberg tried to explain. “Sometimes, people—”

Hostin then tried to get the audience to stand behind her while interrupting Goldberg saying, “Nobody agrees with me?”

Goldberg then angrily snapped, saying, “I’m sorry! You’re going to take her word for it?”

“I like her too! I love that jacket. But you’re wrong, and let me explain why. Sometimes, people are asked to lose weight because they have nodes. They have to be able to get down there and get ahold of the nodes.”

“People lose their voice for many reasons. It is never, as far as I’ve been around for a hundred thousand years, maybe ten years less than my friend Joy,” she continued. “It doesn’t change your voice!”

“The voice is more robust when they’re—” Hostin began, but Goldberg slammed her with another counterargument.

“When opera singers lose weight, they don’t lose their ability to sing,” she said.

The two ended the agreement in an agreement to disagree.

According to a recent interview with the BBC, Wilson previously said that 2020 would be “The Year of Health” for her, and during the pandemic, she started sharing her workouts and weight loss journey with the world.

After her 77-pound weight loss, Wilson told BBC Breakfast that “I got a lot of pushback from my own team actually, here in Hollywood, when I said, ‘OK, I’m going to do this year of health, I feel like I’m really going to physically transform and change my life.”
