‘We Need That Feel-Good Moment,’ Tyler Perry Details Upcoming ‘Sister Act 3’ Film Starring Whoopi Goldberg

Whoopi Goldberg will reportedly join Tyler Perry in producing the new film.

Sister Act 3 was recently announced as the latest addition to the ‘90s film series, which starred Whoopi Goldberg, Kathy Najimy and Maggie Smith. According to Deadline, the upcoming Disney project will bring back Goldberg to play central character Deloris Van Cartier, with High School Musical: The Musical’s Tim Federle directing. Tyler Perry will reportedly serve as the reboot’s producer, along with Goldberg.

Speaking about his latest venture with the Hollywood Reporter, Perry opened up about collaborating and helping to bring Sister Act 3 to life, saying, “The script is being written, and I am the producer on it, not directing. We brought on an incredible director, and Whoopi’s really excited,” The 52-year-old producer-director continued, ”I think that this is just what the country needs. We need that feel-good moment in the movies where you go, “Oh my God, I left there singing.” That’s my hope.”

Nearly 30 years after Sister Act

debuted in theaters and grossed over $200 million worldwide, Goldberg sat down with late-night talk show host James Corden, revealing her excitement to work on a third installment.

 “They kept saying no one wanted to see it, and then quite recently, it turns out that that may not be true. People might want to see it, so we’re working diligently to try to figure out how to get the gang together and come back,” the EGOT-winning actress

said in September 2021, adding, “Listen, it’s a really fun movie. It’s fun, and it feels good, and nobody’s mad…Bad singing, great singing, okay singing and then nuns. What’s better than that?”

An official release date for Sister Act 3 has not yet been released. However, fans can stream the original film and sequel on Disney+.
