VIDEO: Talented African Woman Braids Clients’ Hair While Blind

A talented African woman and member of a non-governmental organization (NGO), Mwai, was seen braiding clients’ hair while blind.

The org’s founder, 23-year-old Tusaiwe Yana, shared a video of Mwai, whom she supports and calls her daughter.

“Let’s braid knotless braids with my daughter,” Tusa’s clip reads. In the video, she’s seen braiding someone’s tightly coiled 4c hair.

“Good job, dear,” the post’s caption said.

The 23-year-old said Mwai always wanted to learn how to do hair but was discouraged on several occasions due to her disability. Her mentor encouraged the blind woman to pursue her interests and even found someone that could teach her. Now, she’s braiding on her own and doing it very well.

In a second video, the talented woman is seen braiding another client’s hair.

“My blind daughter knows how to plait hair,” Tusa boasted in the video. She even aspires to open a salon one day.

Her NGO reportedly supports orphans, teen moms and children on the streets of Malawi. She takes care of approximately 50 children and brings them along on her daily adventures with her family.

NewsOnyx previously reported that another blind African woman made history as she beat 18 contestants in a local pageant. Favor Rufus won the 2022 Miss Port Harcourt City Beauty Pageant after many discouraged her from joining due to her condition. However, she ignored the naysayers and chased after her dreams instead.

“My dream was to become a beauty queen even [though I’m] blind,” she told BBC Pidgin after her victory.

Rufus reportedly went blind at eight years old after enduring problems with her eyes since the tender age of six. Doctors said her left eye became completely blind and that her right one would also go out if she missed her treatments.
