Verzuz Denies Rumors of a Matchup Between R&B Legends Toni Braxton and Mary J. Blige

Unbreak our hearts.

Verzuz quickly squashed rumors of a matchup between singers Mary J. Blige and Toni Braxton after a phony flyer surfaced on social media.

The speculation started when a flyer featuring Braxton and Blige circulated on social media this week. It showed the two singers and claimed the Verzuz episode would air on July 4.

Many thought the flyer was confirmation and expressed excitement about the pairing. However, their dreams were dashed when Verzuz announced the rumors weren’t true.

“We love both ladies, but this is not a confirmed #VERZUZ event,” the show told a fan on Twitter. “Please stay tuned for upcoming announcements on our future shows.”

Verzuz later joked about having to debunk the Blige and Braxton rumor.

“Us having to tell people that the the Mary J. Blige vs Toni Braxton VERZUZ isn’t real,” Verzuz tweeted followed by a gif showing a frantic Kermit the Frog at a typewriter.

Currently, the only confirmed Verzuz pairing is Saturday’s match between Soulja Boy and fellow rapper Bow Wow. They have been trolling

each other on social media in preparation, according to Rap Up.

On Twitter, Soulja Boy claimed the “Like You” rapper “fell off.”

“Bow wow couldn’t make a hit in 2021 if his life depended on it,” Draco tweeted.

“Crank that Better than any song bow wow made his entire career,” he added.

Bow Wow came back with some digs of his own, including referring to Soulja as the “Ben Simmons of the rap game.”

“Soulja just stop,” he said, with two laughing emojis. “Like literally stop…The diff w/ me and you is.. YOU HAVE TO PUT OUT MUSIC. I don’t. Ill be in the box office this weekend while you sit at home in your living room yelling on live at no one.”

Hopefully, it’s all jokes since they will appear on the Millennium Tour together later this year.

Verzuz has one more episode scheduled for July 1 but the names have not been released.
