Tyler Perry Brings Back Madea Character In Upcoming Netflix Film ‘A Madea Homecoming’

In late 2019, actor-director Tyler Perry announced that he would finally be retiring Madea, the sassy, gangsta grandma we’ve all come to love, after 11 films. But according to Deadline, the Why Did I Get Married? star is bringing her back in a new Netflix film titled A Madea Homecoming.

A Madea Homecoming will be Perry’s second project for Netflix, following his 2020 film

A Fall From Grace. He will be directing the upcoming comedy film, working alongside President Of Production at Tyler Perry Studios Will Areu and Mark Swinton, who produced Perry’s For Better or Worse, House of Payne and Madea’s Happy Family.

Perry previously announced that 2019’s A Madea Family Funeral would be the end of Madea, telling CNN at the time, “

I’ll be 50 this year and I’m just at a place in my life where this next 50 I want to do things differently. This character has been amazing. So many people have loved her. It’s been a great franchise.”

However, he also said that he would be open to a comeback in the future, continuing, “She’s also run out of things to say in my point of view. So if there’s something else for her to say maybe one day she’ll return but for right now, no, I think I’m done.”

Sharing the comeback news on his social media Tuesday, Perry simply captioned his video, “She’s back.” Breaking into his iconic Madea voice, he jokingly announced, “Madea’s coming to Netflix. We need to laugh, man. Too much is going on in the county.”

“She’s coming back…Madea on Netflix. I can’t wait,” he added.

A Madea Homecoming is set to premiere sometime in 2022.
