Twitter Users Upset Over Jimmy Kimmel Ruining Quinta Brunson’s Moment At 2022 Emmy’s

Brunson claimed it didn't bother her, but it all comes down to respect.

Abbott Elementary star and creator Quinta Brunson won an Emmy for Writing for a Comedy Series Monday night at the 2022 Emmy Awards. Although the win was Brunson’s moment to shine, many viewers were upset over talk show host Jimmy Kimmel dimming that light by playing dead to “jokingly” display his dissatisfaction over losing the entire night.

Following the announcing of the nominees, actor Will Arnett emerged from backstage dragging Jimmy Kimmel.

“Jimmy couldn’t be here tonight,” Arnett joked once he arrived at the microphone. “This like the 13th time in a row that he’s lost, and he just got into the skinny margaritas back there.”

Arnett looked down at Kimmel and asked, “You okay there, buddy?” Kimmel continued his act by not responding, and Arnett continued, “Yeah, he’s good.”

When Brunson got on the stage to accept her award, she said in the microphone, “Jimmy, wake up, I won.”

Jimmy didn’t budge to get up or slide out of the way so she could make her speech and enjoy her moment. After laying her phone on him, he gave her a thumbs up.

Kimmel laid in the same spot the entire speech, causing many people to express frustration. Some even went further to edit Kimmel out of Brunson’s speech photo.

After Brunson’s win, she and Kimmel got together for a photo, where she earned her revenge by blocking his face with her well-deserved award.

Brunson was asked about the TV host stealing her shine and said it “didn’t bother” her “that much.”

“I don’t know; I know him,” she stated. “Honestly…Jimmy gave me my first, like, big late-night spot and was one of the first people to see Abbott….he Instagram messaged me that he saw this comedy and thought it was one of the greatest comedies of all time, and he was so excited it was going to be on ABC. So, I think, at that moment, I was just really happy that it was Jimmy up there.”

She continued, “I kind of consider him one of the comedy godfathers. I’m a huge of Will Arnett. So, I was wrapped up in the moment. I don’t know. Tomorrow maybe I’ll be mad at him. I’m going to be on his show on Wednesday, so I might punch him in the face.”
