Trevor Noah Talks About His Decision To Depart From The Daily Show: ‘I Want To Leave Before I’m Burnt Out’

NAACP Image Award-winning comedian Trevor Noah recently opened up about his decision to depart from The Daily Show, saying, “I want to leave before I’m burnt out.”

Trevor revealed his sentiments during a candid interview with The Hollywood Reporter on Nov. 21.

“Maybe this comes with not being raised in America, but I believe that everything should end,” he told the outlet about his decision. “A lot of American business and American media is just like, ‘Keep it going as long as possible.’ But I think it’s healthy for things to end when they’re still in a good place. I want to leave before I’m burnt out because there are many other things I’d like to do.”

The comedian first announced that he would be stepping down as host of The Daily Show in September, which shocked his devoted fans and followers.

“I realized after seven years; my time is up. But in the most beautiful way. Honestly,” he told viewers. “I loved hosting the show. It’s been one of my greatest challenges. It’s been one of my greatest joys. I’ve loved trying to figure out how to make people laugh even when the stories are particularly s**tty on the worst days. We’ve laughed together, we’ve cried together. But after seven years, I feel like it’s time.”

During his latest sit-down, he revealed that he hadn’t planned the announcement, as cast and crew members were allegedly unaware of it at first. However, he explained, he felt it was the right way to go about it.

“Part of the reason I did it that way is because I didn’t want anybody to be the person who then tells somebody else, who then tells somebody else, who then tells somebody else,” he said. “And this is where we create the thing. [The show] is where we’re together, our space, and so for me, it felt like the most natural way to tell everybody at the same time.”

The South African native joined The Daily Show in 2015, succeeding famed commentator Jon Stewart, and had a successful seven-year run. His last day hosting the Comedy Central show will reportedly be on Dec. 8.
