Trevor Noah Sues New York Hospital & Doctor After Surgery Allegedly Caused ‘Permanent, Severe & Grievous’ Injuries

The lawsuit claims that Noah "sustained severe and painful personal injuries."

The Daily Show’s Trevor Noah is suing a New York hospital and surgeon due to claims of a botched surgery, with court documents stating

that both “were negligent and careless in failing to treat and care for [him] in a careful and skillful manner,” People reported. The South Africa-native also allegedly suffered “permanent, severe and grievous” injuries.

The lawsuit reportedly claims that Dr. Riley J. Williams III performed surgery on Noah in November 2020, adding that after the procedure, the 37-year-old experienced

a “serious personal injury” and was “rendered sick, sore, lame and disabled.”

According to People, Noah also allegedly “sustained severe and painful personal injuries; sustained severe nervous shock, mental anguish, severe emotional distress and great physical pain; was confined to bed and home for a long period of time; was compelled to undergo hospital and medical aid, treatment and attention; has suffered loss of enjoyment of life; was prevented from engaging in his usual occupation for a long period of time; and since some of his injuries are of a permanent nature, he will continue to suffer similar damages in the future.”

Additionally, the comedian’s suit claimed that the doctor and Hospital for Special Surgery in Manhattan failed to “prescribe proper medications” and “discontinue certain prescription medications.”

Describing the allegations as “meritless,” a spokesperson for the New York hospital said to People, “HSS received a complaint filed on behalf of Mr. Trevor Noah. We have shared with Mr. Noah’s attorney a detailed rebuttal to the claims, which are meritless. Due to HIPAA, we are restricted by law from addressing publicly specific aspects of the treatment of any patient.”

Noah has not publicly commented on the lawsuit.
