According to recent sources reporting to Radar Online, Will Smith’s relationship with his old friend Tom Cruise has not been able to be repaired since Smith’s infamous Oscars slap incident back in March. The insider source reported that although Smith seems to be finding success following it with his new film Emancipation being well received, Cruise hasn’t come around to reconnecting with him.
The source reported, “Will [Smith] has approached Tom [Cruise] several times, trying to reconnect and see if they can hang out and brainstorm on some projects together,” the insider continued, “A solid movie with Tom would guarantee Will’s comeback, or so he thinks. Will has even offered to fly to London if that’s more convenient, but Tom isn’t biting and doesn’t even write him back.”
Cruise, 60, has admitted to being sympathetic to all that 54-year-old Smith has dealt with following the Oscar slap but allegedly, the
Top Gun: Maverick actor doesn’t intend to “be stupid enough to put his neck on the line and be dragged down by association,”However, the source added that Cruise’s reluctance to initiate interactions wasn’t necessarily unique to Smith. They disclosed that Cruise generally avoids Hollywood friendships and prefers to enjoy his more isolated, quiet lifestyle.
“Tom is still very wary of any Hollywood friendships. He likes his reclusive lifestyle in the United Kingdom. He doesn’t want to get sucked back into the Hollywood scene — especially by way of Will Smith. He’s still kryptonite.”
The aforementioned Oscars slap incident happened during the live broadcast of the Award ceremony back in March when Chris Rock made distasteful G.I Jane jokes about Smith’s wife, Jada Pinkett, who lives with alopecia. After making the joke on stage, Smith slapped Rock in front of the viewers and live audience.
