The Baltimore Ravens Pay Tribute To Michael K. Williams’ Before Kick-Off

On September 19, the Baltimore Ravens paid tribute to the late actor, Michael K. Williams, before their kick-off against The Chiefs by sounding an honorary whistle.

On HBO’s The Wire, Williams’ character, “Omar Little” would frequently announce his presence by whistling “The Farmer in the Dell” to let people know he was coming. This was the same whistle tone heard on Sunday night’s game.

The Wire director David Simone was pleasantly surprised and impressed at the interpretation and said, “Heard the sound of Omar whistling ‘Farmer In The Dell’ from the stadium while walking across the Ostend Street bridge to the Ravens opener and thought I’d lost my s**t,” Simon wrote on Twitter.

“It’s the little things that are gonna get me, I guess. But Michael gonna last,” he added.

According to MadameNoire, Williams was nominated for “Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series” during this year’s Emmy Awards but unfortunately did not earn the title.

During the ceremony, actress Kerry Washington gave a touching speech about the Primetime Emmy nominee saying, “Michael was…a brilliantly talented actor and a generous human being who has left us far too soon.”

“Michael, your excellence and artistry will endure. We love you,” the

Scandal star added.

The Wire was filmed on the streets of Baltimore and was the theme for the hooking series that gave a take on the city’s drug culture through the lens of rug dealers, drug users, and law enforcement.
