Son Of LA Rapper DJ Quik, David Blake Jr., Charged With Murder

David Blake Jr. is being held on a $2 million bail.

Famed Los Angeles rapper DJ Quik’s son has been arrested and charged in a murder case.

David M. Blake Jr., 27, was identified as a murder suspect for a fight and shooting on May 25 that left Julio Cardoza, 33, dead. Authorities found Cardoza fatally shot in the chest at the 13200 block of Carfax Avenue. He was transported to a local hospital, where he died from the injuries.

On May 27, Blake Jr. was arrested by Downey Police Department detectives in Porter Ranch, California and was being held on a $2 million bail. He is charged with one count of felony murder.

According to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, Blake Jr. also faces an allegation of personal use of a firearm.

Compton officials said in a short emailed statement, “the City is shocked to learn about this incident.”

District Attorney George Gascón said, “Senseless gun violence continues to plague our communities and needs to stop before more lives are unnecessarily taken from us.”

David Blake Jr. was a budding rapper known as D. Blake before running into legal issues.

He has featured on his father DJ Quik’s albums, including 2014’s The Midnight Life on “Shine” and “That Getter.”

Blake Jr. has also dropped his own music including “Official,” “Rollin,” and “I Wanna Know (Remix)” featuring Dom Kennedy.

Blake Jr. is also the liaison to California’s Compton City Councilman Isaac Galvan, who has yet to comment on his case. According to NBC Los Angeles, in 2021, Galvan was charged

with conspiracy and bribery surrounding his election. In 2020, he was federally investigated surrounding cannabis.

Galvan allegedly tried to bribe an employee of the County Registrar-Record’s office on election night during voting counts. In 2020, FBI agents issued a warrant to search Galvan’s apartment for marijuana-related business.
