Silk Sonic Swept The Grammys, But Anderson .Paak’s Ode To Ike Turner Swept The Internet

.Paak wasn’t the only member of Silk Sonic channeling his inner-Black legend.

Throwback R&B supergroup Silk Sonic may have done a “clean sweep” on Sunday’s 64th Grammy Awards for “Leave The Door Open,” but the number of awards the band won wasn’t the reason for co-frontman Anderson .Paak trended on Twitter.

On Monday, .Paak was the talk of Black Twitter after channeling his inner Ike Turner at the Grammys. The talented drummer’s fit was a 70s-era dark teal velvet suit, unbuttoned pink silk Gucci logo shirt, sunglasses and a signature mop-top style wig.

Although fans mentioned Turner in the reference, it was really . Paak’s resemblance to actor Laurence Fishburne’s portrayal of the abusive ex-husband of icon Tina Turner left folks in stitches. Fishburne played the singer in the 1993 hit film What’s Love Got To Do With It starring Angela Bassett as  Tina.

.Paak wasn’t the only member of Silk Sonic channeling his inner-Black legend.

Singer Bruno Mars channeled the late great Sammy Davis, Jr. The 36-year-old crooner rocked a stunning Black tuxedo and bow tie, a crisp white buttondown shirt with ruffles down the front, and Mars finished the dapper look with designer aviator sunnies. Black Twitter recognized the nod to Davis, Jr. and stanned the “Talking To The Moon” singer.

Supergroup Silk Sonic is comprised of Mars, .Paak, Christopher Brody Brown and Dernst Emile II, known as D’Mile. The band swept the Grammys, winning Record Of The Year, Song Of The Year, Best R&B Performance (tying with Jasmine Sullivan) and Best R&B Song for “Leave The Door Open.”

During the group’s acceptance speech for Record Of The Year, .Paak kept it trill as his partner, Mars, lit a cigarette while on stage.

“We are really trying our hardest to remain humble at this point, but in the industry, we call that a clean sweep.”

Congratulations, Fellas!
