R&B singer Sam Salter has died at the age of 46. Salter passed away on Aug. 28. No cause of death has been released.
Salter’s rich, sultry voice was first heard by the masses on his debut album produced by Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds and La Face Records, “It’s On Tonight” in 1997.
The singer got his start singing the gospel at the Faithful Church of God in Christ growing up in Los Angeles, California.
The “Color Of Love” singer was discovered by executives from LaFace and was signed by L.A. Reid and Edmonds before being partnered with Christopher “Tricky” Stewart for “It’s On Tonight” when he was just 22-years-old.
You Know I Got Soul broke the sad news on Twitter.
The condolences quickly poured out on Twitter paying tribute to Salter.
After signing with LaFace Records, Salter had hits with “After 12, Before 6” and “There You Are.” The label never released his second album, “Little Black Book” but Salter kept making music. The multi-talented singer also wrote songs for Charlie Wilson, B2K, Destiny’s Child, 98 Degrees, Kandi Burress, El DeBarge and Tyrese Gibson. Salter released the single “To Be Loved” in 2011 and also shared his gift by teaching others as a vocal coach and working as a music producer.
Our condolences go out to his family.
