“Truth Is” singer Fantasia Barrino-Taylor became an honorary member of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc.
She announced her acceptance into the sisterhood through Instagram in a video post. The video was of the singer’s induction ceremony during Sigma Gamma Rho’s Centennial Founders’ Month.
At the beginning of the video, someone informed the sorors about Fantasia’s tour, stating that they would be notified about the upcoming tour dates. One of Fantasia’s sorors instructed the other members to wrap everything up, so the new inductees could enjoy moments alone with their families. Before people left, the “Lose to Win” singer expressed
her gratitude in a speech.“Sorors, thank you so much,” she started. “Thank you, thank you, thank you. I’ve been through a lot. [I] got a testimony. God gave it to me all over again. I’ve always wanted to be a part of a sisterhood.”
She continued, “We’re alike…I love what you support, and I love what you do and I won’t disappoint you. I promise I won’t…Everywhere I go, I will rep you.”
Fantasia ended her speech with Sigma Gamma Rho’s “EE-Yip!” call.
After receiving hugs and taking photos, the ceremony closed in prayer. Women decked in blue and gold surrounded the songstress and prayed for support, success, and safe travels while on tour.
The singer then entered a bedroom full of “Sigma Swag,” comprising jackets, shirts, bags, license plate frames, shoes and more.
Fantasia turned to the camera and apologized to her fans for not doing an episode of Taylor Talks, explaining why.
“I got inducted tonight,” she said. “I am now a Sigma Gamma Rho,” the singer said, her sorors responding with “EE-Yips.”
“I had to be quiet,” Fantasia continued. “It was hard, but now I am a part of the best sisterhood there is.”
Her husband, Kendall Taylor, also celebrated her special moment.
Along with Fantasia, Emmy-nominated producer Yvonne McNair, actress Alexis Jones and Osmo’s Global Head of Communications Shawn Smith were inducted into the sorority.
