Pioneering actress Rita Moreno revealed she’s “text buddies” with rapper Ludacris and NFL player Marshawn Lynch.

During an appearance on 

The View, co-host Sunny Hostin asked Moreno about her time on the 10th installment of the Fast & Furious franchise, Fast X, and informed the West Side Story actress that Ludacris was a guest on the talk show and shared that he loved working with her.

Moreno gushed at Ludacris’ sentiments before answering. 

“I loved it,” she responded. “I have to say that when I went into rehearsal for that scene, it was freezing cold out,” Moreno recalled. “We were shooting in London, we’re supposed to be in my backyard in L.A. I noticed that Chris was there. I thought, that can’t be him. And it was! I said, ‘Are you Chris?’ And he said ‘yes,’ and I said, ‘Hi! Hellooo,’ and now we’ve become text buddies!”

Moreno plays Dom Toretto’s (portrayed by Vin Diesel) grandmother, Abuela Toretto.

She added

that she and Lynch were text buddies, surprising The View co-hosts. She revealed that she and Lynch met on the 80 for Brady movie set, where Lynch appeared as himself.

Scrunching up her face, Moreno proudly stated, “I like my Black boys.” Whoopi Goldberg injected with, “And they like you, too!”

It’s quite an honor for Ludacris and Lynch to text Moreno, the third person and first Hispanic American to reach EGOT status. Moreno paved the way for Latinas to be cast in non-traditional ways by obtaining roles that enabled her to portray different nationalities, from Italian and Irish to American.

During her time on The View, Moreno also spoke about how she joined the 1963 March on Washington and saw the powerful moment when gospel singer Mahalia Jackson tugged on Martin Luther King Jr.’s jacket and told him to tell the people about The Dream, causing Dr. King to go off script to give his most famous speech.
