Nicki Minaj’s Husband, Kenneth Petty, Requests To Have Trial Postponed

Petty failed to register as a sex offender in California.

The husband of Nicki Minaj, Kenneth Petty, requested to have his upcoming trial postponed earlier this month. According to Radar Online, Petty is facing up to 10 years in prison for failing to register as a sex offender in California.

Petty was 16 when he was arrested for the first-degree attempted rape of another 16-year-old in New York. He was convicted in 1995 and spent four years in jail.

Petty, 42, was supposed to register as a sex offender when he first moved to California, but he did not. He was arrested and later released on $100,000 bail. A trial was to begin on June 29.

His lawyers contend that they need more time to prepare for trial. They claim that they have more than 800 pages of audio recordings, reports, videos and other discovery to sort through. Petty also hired two new attorneys who need to catch up with the case.

According to the alleged victim, Minaj and Petty have had their friends threaten her and her family from publicly talking about the 1995 conviction.

“For Nicki Minaj and Kenneth Petty, tell your people to leave my family alone. Okay?” she said. “Don’t call my f*****g family, don’t call my brothers, don’t call anybody. Leave me and my family the f*** alone.”

Petty also served time for killing a man on a Queens street corner. Petty allegedly pulled up on Lamont Robinson in 2002 and shot him three times in the stomach

In 2006, Petty pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter and spent seven more years in prison.

Petty and Minaj share an 8-month-old son who they nicknamed Papa Bear. Minaj, 38, is supportive of Petty and praises him as a father. She said that he is a changed man, and she has been there for him throughout his recent legal troubles. Minaj knew Petty as a teenager before she became famous. The two are both from Queens, New York, and dated as teenagers.

The judge hasn’t made a ruling yet, but Petty is trying to get the trial postponed until August.
