Missy Elliott is now the first-ever female hip-hop artist to get inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Foundation, made up of over 1,000 artists, music historians, and industry professionals, voted to include Elliott in the 2023 class alongside legends such as Chaka Khan, DJ Kool Herc, and Soul Train creator and host Don Cornelius.
On Wednesday, Missy shared a tweet expressing her gratitude for the honor and thanked her fans, peers, and industry professionals for their support.
She acknowledged the overwhelming amount of tweets she had received, writing “If I miss some of yalls tweets please forgive me it’s a lot to see but I do want to say Thank You to my Fans (Supafriends) my Peers/Radio/Djs/Bloggers & again @rockhall! I am Thankful!”

This latest achievement adds to Missy’s previous pioneering accomplishments, such as being the first female rapper to be inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame, the first to receive the VMAs Vanguard Award, and the first to be honored with the Women’s Entrepreneurship Day Music Pioneer Award at the United Nations, all in 2019 alone.
The 38th Annual Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will take place on November 3 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
The event promises to be a celebration of the groundbreaking achievements of Missy Elliott and her fellow inductees. It will be an opportunity to honor their legacies and influence on music and culture, as well as to inspire the next generation of artists to push boundaries and break barriers.
