Michigan Woman Mistakes Eye Drops For Nail Glue And Accidentally Seals Eye Shut

Yacedrah Williams says her contact lens saved her eyesight.

We’ve all made a mistake or two in our lives. But after Yacedrah Williams of Michigan confused her eye drops with nail adhesive she had lying around, she knew that she had made one of the biggest slip-ups of her life.

NBC News reported that once Williams realized what happened, she tried to flush her eye out with cold water. But the glue had already begun to crystallize over her contact lens, causing her eye to be sealed shut.

On April 15, Williams awoke in the middle of the night to moisten her dry contacts with eye drops. But due to both bottles looking similar and her being in a sleepy haze, she mixed up her eye drops with nail glue and began panicking when she realized her blunder.

According to NBC News, she realized when the drop fell into her eye that it was nail glue instead, but it was too late.

“I was like, ‘Oh my goodness!’ It dropped in my eye, and I tried to wipe it away, but I could feel it start to burn almost immediately,” she

told the news outlet.

Williams then began to grow even more concerned when she realized that her eye was sealed shut. She claims that she could feel the substance burn in her eye and begin to harden over her contact, causing an irritating itch.

After attempting to flush out her eye with water to no avail, Williams had her husband dial 911 and transport her to a local hospital. Upon arriving, the medical staff was able to flush her eye out with a saline solution over a two to three-hour process, NBC News reports. Doctors also removed her crystallized contact lens during the operation.

Williams recounted the harrowing but necessary procedure that saved her eyesight, telling ABC 13, “They said that contact saved my vision. They kept saying, ‘you’ll probably lose your lashes,’ which I did because they had to pull on it and flip the top of my lid.”

She has since ditched her nail glue to eliminate any confusion in the future.
